MONTMARTRE

Montmartre  is a 130-meter (430-foot) high hill in Paris.
Montmartre is well known for the Sacré-Cœur white-domed Basilica.

At the beginning of the 20th century, during the Belle Époque, many artists worked in Montmartre, (Dalí, Modigliani, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Camille Pissarro and Van Gogh).

Montmartre is a historic district with limited development allowed in order to maintain its genuine character.
A funicular railway ascends the hill while the Montmartre bus circles the hill. Downhill to the southwest is the red-light district of Pigalle. The actual Moulin Rouge theatre is also in Pigalle, next to Blanche métro station.

NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS

"Our Lady of Paris", Notre-Dame Cathedral, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité in Paris.

The rligious building is considered as one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, and is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world, famous for its sculptures and stained glass.

The cathedral treasury contains a reliquary which houses most important relics, (the purported Crown of Thorns, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails).

During the French Revolution, Notre-Dame suffered desecration  when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. Restoration began in 1845.

EIFFEL TOWER

The Eiffel Tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris is named after engineer Gustave Eiffel who designed and built it from 1887 to 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair.

It is a global cultural icon of France and one of the most famous structures in the world.

The tower is 324 meters (1,063 ft) tall and remains the tallest structure in Paris.

It has three levels for visitors, with restaurants on the first and second levels.

Maintenance of the Eiffel tower requires 60 tons of paint every seven years to prevent it from rusting. It has been completely repainted 20 times since its erection.
